Skoda’s to Launch Its First Electric Car in India by September 2025: Enyaq iV or Elroq?

skoda ev Launch : In a significant move to tap into India’s rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market, Skoda has announced the launch of its first electric car in the country by September 2025. While the exact model remains under wraps, industry insiders speculate it could be the Enyaq iV, a globally acclaimed electric SUV, or the newer Elroq, a compact electric SUV. Both models are built on Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform, which also underpins other popular EVs like the Volkswagen ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron.

The Contenders: Enyaq iV vs. Elroq

Skoda ev is currently evaluating three models for its Indian debut: the Enyaq iV, Enyaq Coupe, and Elroq. The final decision will depend on the government’s EV policy, expected to be finalized by March 2025.

It recently received a mid-life update, enhancing its appeal. It features a 77 kWh battery pack paired with dual motors, delivering a combined power output of 261 bhp and a WLTP-certified range of up to 513 km on a single charge. The SUV supports 125 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 5-80% charge in just 38 minutes. Its premium interior includes a 13-inch touchscreen, sustainable materials, and advanced features like gesture control and voice assistance.

skoda ev Elroq:

The Elroq, a newer addition to Skoda EV lineup, is slightly smaller than the Enyaq, measuring 4.49 meters in length. It offers three battery options: 52 kWh, 59 kWh, and 77 kWh, with ranges of 370 km, 385 km, and 560 km, respectively. The Elroq’s higher-spec version can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.6 seconds, making it a strong contender in the compact electric SUV segment.

Why the Delay?

Originally, skoda ev planned to launch the Enyaq iV in India in 2024. However, the launch was postponed due to internal reasons and the need to align with the government’s EV policy. Petr Janeba, Skoda India’s Brand Director, confirmed that the company is waiting for the policy to be finalized before deciding whether to import the vehicles as completely built units (CBUs) or assemble them locally via the completely knocked down (CKD) route.
